About Yael Respler
An Orthodox Jewish psychotherapist based in New York, Dr. Yael Respler has shared her professional expertise with audiences in this country and others, delivering lectures throughout the USA, Canada, and Switzerland. Locally, she pens the “Dear Dr. Yael” column for the Jewish Press, in which she addresses a range of readers’ questions involving dating, children, marital and in-law issues, dealing with difficult people, and a range of psychological and health issues. Every summer, she also hosts a psychology radio program airing on the Catskills station, Thunder 102.1, on Sundays.
Dr. Yael Respler has recently become involved in a hotline called the Akeres Habayis Hotline and is now answering questions on domestic harmony (Shalom Bayis) in a new section called Daaga Belev. Her section is called Ask Dr. Yael, and women can post questions by calling the hotline at 212-444-1900 or 718-506-9057. Dr. Respler paraphrases the questions to ensure confidentiality for the caller. Dr. Respler is also actively involved in marital harmony workshops (Shalom Bayis workshops) via teleconference and has just completed her first international teleconference from London.
In her private practice, Dr. Yael Respler draws on three decades of experience to counsel families, individuals, and spouses. She concentrates on dating challenges and issues that arise in the intimacy of marriage; she also leads Shalom Bayis (Marital Harmony) group sessions for married women. A certified hypnotherapist, she employs this technique, along with cognitive behavioral therapy, to control phobias and promote weight loss.
An expert in resolving parenting conflicts, Dr. Yael Respler has developed the audio-cassette, “Creative Jewish Parenting.” Similarly she produced a video, “Chutzpah is Muktzah,” for teens along with a sequel, “Chutzpah is Muktzah 2,” for toddlers and youngsters which is available in DVD and CD format at Jewish bookstores.
Dr. Yael Respler obtained a Master’s degree at New York’s Yeshiva University and later earned a Ph.D. In her dissertation, she contended that Orthodox Jews respond better when intimate marital therapy is conducted by an Orthodox Jewish therapist, since both the therapist and the couple hold the same values.
Away from her professional responsibilities, Dr. Yael Respler enjoys spending time with family, reading, and swimming.
